Self-Catering Kitchens & Communal Dining Room

At Marthrown, we’ve proudly held our 3★ hostel rating thanks to our well-equipped self-catering facilities*, giving guests the freedom to cook, relax, and connect, all in the heart of the forest.

Our self-catering kitchens include:

  • Gas cookers
  • Full set of crockery, cutlery, serving dishes, and glasses
  • A cosy dining room with a wood-burning stove
  • A stash of books and games to enjoy indoors when the weather’s not playing along, including table-tennis.

To make things even easier, you’ll find free tea, coffee and sugar available 24/7, so you can always pop the kettle on, no matter what time adventure calls. Just let us know if you need more.

BBQ Area

Cook, Chill, and Celebrate in the Forest

Whatever the weather, our all-weather, sheltered BBQ area is ready to go. Fully covered and open all year round, it’s the perfect spot to grill, gather, and enjoy good food with great company, come rain or shine.

This shared space features:

  • BBQs provided (Please bring your own charcoal and lighting fluid.)
  • Stone prep stations
  • Picnic benches
  • The Hot Tub and Sauna
  • Electricity for lighting and your own music setup

This area gives you all the tools to cook with ease and unwind.

⚠️ Note: Hog roasts must be requested and arranged in advance of booking. All glamping units (Yurts, Bell Tent, and Celtic Roundhouse) include their own private BBQ, but if the weather’s looking unpredictable, this covered area is the perfect backup plan.

Reconnect with Nature

Are you yearning for an escape? A chance to breathe fresh air, feel the earth beneath your feet, and gaze at dark, star-studded skies? Marthrown of Mabie is your sanctuary. Whether you’re here for a stag do, a romantic break, or simply to recharge, we invite you to be part of the woodland.

Respect its splendour, and let the wilderness embrace you.

Experience Dark Skies and Stargazing at Marthrown of Mabie

At Marthrown of Mabie, the night sky is more than just a backdrop—it’s a breathtaking spectacle. Nestled in the heart of Mabie Forest, our location offers some of the darkest skies in Scotland. Away from the city lights, you’ll witness a celestial display like no other, with countless stars twinkling overhead and, on a clear night, even a glimpse of the Milky Way. Whether you’re relaxing in our wood-fired hot tub or simply enjoying the tranquillity of the outdoors, the night sky at Marthrown adds a magical touch to your stay.

The Challenge Ropes Course

Can You Complete the Circuit?

Looking for a bit of wild adventure without leaving the forest? Welcome to our Low Ropes Course! A “Go Ape” style challenge that tests your balance, bravery, and determination to stay off the ground!

Built with adventure in mind:

  • Stag and hen parties
  • Milestone birthdays
  • Family holidays
  • And especially for kids who need a break from their screens!

With rope bridges, balance beams, and forest obstacles, it’s a brilliant way to burn energy, build confidence, and create unforgettable moments together.

So, if you’re up for it, grab your crew, leave the iPads behind, and see if you can make it all the way round without touching the ground. Game on!

⚠️ Important: This is a ropes challenge course, not a playground and used at your own risk. We’re all about real outdoor fun, which means the occasional rope burn or splinter is part of the adventure! Children must be supervised by an adult at all times.

High Ropes (Decommissioned)

Towering over the Larch Yurt, you might have spotted the framework of our once-active High Ropes Course.

Though no longer in use, this beautiful structure remains a proud part of our history. It was once a favourite for adventurers and thrill-seekers, adding a sense of awe to the skyline and laughter to the canopy. Today, it stands as a reminder of the many stories shared here, from group challenges to personal milestones reached high above the woodland floor.

While the High Ropes Course is now decommissioned, its presence still shapes the spirit of the site. Bold, brave, and deeply connected to the trees.
